How Listening To Music Can Really Boost Your Workout

One of the ways you can overcome boredom during exercise is by listening to music while you’re doing your workout. Most of us know this trick, but you’ll be surprised how many of us forget the music at home when we go out for a workout. Listening to music will make you enjoy your exercise better, and you would be able to last long on your exercise without getting bored.

Some tips on how you can use music to improve your exercise workouts include.

1. Choose the right music

It is very important that you choose the right type of music before you put on your headphones. If you choose music that has a fast tempo, these types of music will give you more information to process which will help to get your mind off the physical sensations of fatigue and the body signals that try to tell you to stop exercising.

The best types of music that you can use to boost exercise are those that have a tempo of between 120 to 140 beats per minute; if you choose music that is too fast, you will not experience any performance boosting effect from such music.

The use of music is particularly good for most of us who work out at moderate levels to shed off excess body fat; it motivates us to work out more.

You can tailor the kind of music that you are listening to, to suit the different specific stages you are exercising ; you can listen to music that has slower tempos per minute when you are either warming up or when you are cooling down; when you step up the intensity of your workout to moderately high levels you should listen to faster songs.

2. Monitor the volume of the music

You need to adjust the volume of your music to a moderate level to reduce the harmful effects of excessively high volumes on your ears.

When you listen to excessively loud music when you exercise, you can experience temporary hearing loss as the increased flow of blood from the inner ear towards the surrounding muscles makes the ear more vulnerable to damage. Also if you continue to expose your ears to excessively loud music for long periods, you will end up destroying the hair cells in the inner ear that are responsible for hearing thus leading to more permanent hearing loss. Furthermore, you could end up with complications like tinnitus, depression and other mental illnesses if you persistently listen to loud music.

In the event you go beyond this boundary, you are adding your ears at serious risk.

It is also preferable that you make use of sound-isolating headphones that tend to reduce background noise so that it can be easier for you to tone down the volume as you will not have to drown other sounds.

3. Do not use headphones when you are exercising outdoors

If you put on your headphones when you are walking or jogging outdoors, you will not be able to hear sounds of traffic and other dangerous sounds around you, and you will be putting yourself at great risk of severe road traffic accidents.
