5 Health Foods That Will Boost Your Metabolism

Metabolism (the rate at which your body burns calories) is one of the buzz words in the weight loss community. Many people believe that increasing their metabolism is the key to weight loss success. Whilst the extent to which you can realistically boost your metabolism has been exaggerated there are still things you can do to increase the amount of calories you burn each day. One of these things is to make changes to your current diet. Here are 5 health foods that will boost your metabolism.

1. Almonds

Many believe that one of nature’s miraculous foods is almonds. We get the most healthy calories and nutrition out of the least amount. It’s the highest amount of nutrition for the smallest amount of calories that we eat. One serving size of almonds is the size of a handful and is a great source of vitamin E. It’s a great source of fiber too and will help you to stay full, and offers monounsaturated fat.

2. Blueberries

These are antioxidants. Most people have heard this buzzword before. Everybody needs to consume antioxidants. The more antioxidants we eat the better for our bodies. People buy antioxidants and they know they need them, but do we truly understand, why?

Oxidation is a chemical reaction due to electrons that are taken off of a substance. The body has oxidative stress that is when you are sick, have a disease, or just after a workout. The product from this oxidation is called a free radical. This is when we are most thankful for blueberries being antioxidants.

Free radicals can start to build up in our body if they are not removed. They will start to damage our cells and this will lead to inhibited muscle growth. It can also lead to fat loss and even a disease. This is why we need antioxidants, and why they are a good thing. Antioxidants will help our bodies to prevent oxidation, and prevent build up of free radicals.

3. Whey Proteins

Whey protein is known for being the highest quality and the best form of protein. It is incredible stuff. Whey protein provides the building blocks for your body to produce amino acids that will help to build muscle. Whey protein also plays a role for a healthy immune system, as an antioxidant. Potential fat loss is great when whey protein is used with exercise.

4. Salmon

Everyone feels that Salmon is high in calories, which is true but it is low in saturated fat. It is an excellent source of protein and a unique type of “good” fat called omega-3. It is an essential fatty acid that is found in salmon which is extremely beneficial to your cardiovascular system. Omega-3 is a health-promoting fat that will help to prevent erratic heart rhythms. This will assist to avoid blood clots within the arteries and improve the ratio of good cholesterol to offset the bad cholesterol that is known to clog the arteries. This will help to prevent any clog to your arteries.

5. Spinach

A jade green in colour, leafy vegetable such as spinach can provide more nutrients than most other foods. Protect yourself against osteoporosis, colon cancer, arthritis, and other diseases by eating lots of spinach. Spinach is also known for benefiting your mental state too.

If you can include all of these foods into your daily eating plan, your body will feel full of extra energy and you can prolong your life. With all the food choices we have, there aren’t many that can keep you healthy and fit, but these five foods are a great place to start.
